The Golden Triangle is in the far north of Thailand in Chiang Rai Province. Apparently, the English name comes from the meeting of Laos, Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand. It’s also where the Mekong meets the Ruak River. When most people think of this area they think of opium production. However, that product line has been greatly curtailed over the years. For me, this area represents hill tribe people, ancient ways, breathtaking scenery, and cooler climates.
