In the summer of 1998 I visited Syria as part of my sweep through the Middle East. This slideshow reflects some aspects of Syrian living then, along with some of its architectural treasures. I found Syria to be very hospitable and safe, if not an eye-opener. I hope to return there someday soon. That is, once their internal conflicts are resolved.
The images in this slideshow were taken with film (before digital cameras became popular), which is why they’re a bit grainy.
