Samosir Island

One of the kookiest places I’ve traveled to is Samosir Island in the middle of Lake Toba, North Sumatra. (Yes, that would make it an island within an island.) Their traditional Batak houses look like old ships, but upside down. Their religion is now Christian, but with trailing of the old Batak religion. And at the time I was there, there was no national government on the island, so such things as magic mushroom omelets for the tourists was available.

More on Samosir Island please. tipsTip: To get to Lake Toba, you’ll most likely spend some time in Medan. Medan can be a very tough place, so please be mindful of that.
